Cover your tracks
Private browsing hides what you visit from other people who use this device afterwards — it does not clear history already saved, and it does not hide anything from your internet provider, your workplace or school network, or the websites themselves. If someone already has access to this device or your accounts, private browsing alone will not stop them from finding out.

Beyond your browser
- Use a separate account that others don’t have the password to.
- Use a strong, unique password and turn on two-factor authentication where you can.
- Check which apps and browser extensions are installed on this device — some can record what you do even in a private window.
- If you can, use a device or network that isn’t shared with the person you’re trying to keep this from.
